Help & FAQ

StackCheaper compares live gold & silver prices across dealers so you can find the cheapest place to buy. Here's how it all works. Search below or browse by topic.

Getting started

What is StackCheaper?
StackCheaper tracks live prices for gold and silver bullion across many dealers and shows you who's cheapest right now, valued against live spot. Compare any coin or bar side by side, set price alerts, and track your stack. It's all free to use.
Do I need an account?
No. You can browse and compare prices without signing in. A free, passwordless account lets you track your stack, build a watchlist, and set price alerts.
Does StackCheaper sell metals?
No. We don't sell anything or handle payments. When you find a good price, the link takes you straight to that dealer's own site to complete the purchase there.

Prices & premiums

What does "premium" mean?
The premium is how much over the metal's melt (spot) value you're paying. If silver spot is $30/oz and a coin costs $33, that's a 10% premium. For the same metal, a lower premium is the better deal.
Are these the prices I'll actually pay?
Listed prices reflect each dealer's wire/check/eCheck price, which is usually their cheapest payment method. Paying by card is typically a few percent more. Spot and stock move constantly, so always confirm the final price on the dealer's own site.
How often do prices update?
Dealer prices and spot are refreshed continuously throughout the day, so what you see closely tracks the live market.
Why does a price differ from the dealer's site?
Spot moves every few seconds and dealers re-price at different times, so brief mismatches happen. The dealer's own checkout is always the source of truth.
How do you calculate the per-ounce price?
We divide a listing's total price by the pure metal content of the item, so a 90%-silver "junk" coin or a fractional-ounce gold coin is compared fairly against a 1 oz round. That's what lets you line up very different products by true cost per ounce.
Which dealers do you track?
A growing list of the major U.S. online bullion dealers. We're adding more over time. If there's one you'd like to see, let us know below.

Price alerts

How do price alerts work?
Set a target — a premium % or a price — and when a live listing crosses it, we email you. Alerts watch every dealer we track. Each alert is one-shot: it fires once, then switches itself off so a price that simply sits below your target can't keep pinging you. Re-arm it in one click on your Alerts page to watch again.
What can I set an alert on, and what's free?
Free accounts get real-time spot-price alerts on gold or silver, like "gold under $4,000/oz." Pro adds premium alerts (get pinged when a metal or item hits your target premium, over or under spot, for example any silver at or below +2%) and alerts on a specific coin or bar.
Will a bouncing price spam me?
No. An alert fires once and then turns itself off, so a price that wobbles across your threshold — or just sits below it — sends exactly one email, never a stream. The trade-off is that it stays off until you re-arm it, so you won't be told about the next crossing either.
What are "exceptional deal" alerts?
An optional heads-up when a genuinely standout deal shows up across any dealer. It's not on a schedule, just when something unusually good appears. Toggle it on from your Account page.
How do I edit or pause an alert?
On your Account page, hit the ✎ to edit any alert right in the list, or flip its toggle to pause it without deleting.
How are alerts delivered?
By email to your account address, the moment your target is hit.

StackCheaper Pro

What is StackCheaper Pro?
The paid tier. The comparison table, every product, MyStack, and real-time spot-price alerts all stay free. Pro adds premium alerts (get pinged when a metal or item hits your target premium over spot), alerts on any specific coin or bar by price or premium, and more as we build it, for $45/year (3 months free) or $5/month. See Pro.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, a 7-day Pro trial, no card required. You get everything, including real-time per-product alerts, so you can see it work for real. Start it from the Pro page or the moment you set up a per-product alert.
What happens when my trial ends?
Nothing you set up is deleted. You keep your real-time spot-price alerts; premium and per-product alerts simply pause until you upgrade. We'll also email you a weekly recap of deals your alerts would have caught.
How do I cancel?
Anytime, from the billing portal. Hit Manage subscription on the Pro page. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
What do alerts cover?
Two kinds. A price alert pings you when the price hits your number (for example, gold under $4,000/oz). A premium alert pings you when the premium, a dealer's price over or under spot, hits your target (for example, any silver at or below +2%). Set either one on a whole metal or on a specific coin or bar. Free accounts get spot-price alerts on gold and silver; the rest is Pro.

My Stack

What is My Stack?
A private tracker for what you own. Add coins or bars from the catalog by quantity, or a custom amount in ounces, and StackCheaper values your metal at live spot.
How do I enter what I paid?
For catalog items, enter your cost per coin/bar; for custom lots, the total you paid. We then show your average cost per ounce vs current spot, plus total invested vs current value.
Does the value include premiums?
No. Your stack is valued at pure metal melt (spot × ounces), not resale price with premiums. Think of it as the floor value of your metal, not an offer to buy.
Is my stack private?
Yes. It's tied to your account and only visible to you.

Your account & privacy

Settings → Account has Sign out everywhere (logs out every device) and Delete account (permanently removes your account and all your data).
